CORAL GABLES, Fla. (KXAN) -- The second-seeded Texas baseball team opened up their NCAA Tournament run with a 4-2 win over Louisiana.The Longhorns took down the Ragin' Cajuns at Mark Light Field on the University of Miami campus after a weather delay of nearly two hours pushed the start time to 2:46 Central Time. The win for Texas marks their fifth-straight regional winning their opening game.Texas ace Lucas Gordon was again masterful on the mound, going seven innings allowing just one run and striking out eight. Zane Morehouse came in for the final two innings allowing the other Louisiana run.The offense came on strong for the Longhorns after Louisiana took a 1-0 lead in the sixth. Iowa firm will buy bankrupt Windom pork processing plant for $13M; 1,000 jobs still lost for now

WINDOM, Minn. — An Iowa pork processor has successfully bid $13 million for the shuttered HyLife Foods slaughterhouse in Windom, according to documents filed Friday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.HyLife filed for bankruptcy protection in April and since then more than 1,000 employees have been unsure about the southwestern Minnesota plant’s future. However, the new owner, Premium Iowa Park, doesn’t plan to retain any of them, HyLife said.Initially, the Delaware-based bankruptcy court was to approve the sale on Friday, but the parties involved were still finalizing documentation, according to Michael Comerford, attorney for HyLife. ST. LOUIS - Friday marks one year since German airline Lufthansa began operating non-stop service to Germany from St. Louis Lambert International Airport. Meati Foods, maker of alternative meat products, cuts 5% of workforce

A Boulder startup that produces a meat alternative and earlier this year opened a plant in Thornton laid off 17 people, or about 5% of its 300 employees this week.Meati Foods said in a statement Thursday that it eliminated the positions after deciding how to best allocate its resources.“These changes were not made lightly. The individuals leaving our company have been instrumental in contributing to Meati’s success, and we are working to ensure they receive adequate care and assistance as they find new opportunities,” the company said.Meati Foods started in 2016. Co-founders Tyler Huggins and Justin Whiteley were both doctoral students when they began researching the use of mushroom root as an alternative protein source to boost nutrition and address hunger.The company uses a fermentation to process the mushroom root, which it cooks, seasons and forms into what it calls cutlets and steaks. CHP captures catalytic converter theft suspect after high-speed chase

The California Highway Patrol pursued an alleged thief from Ventura County to Woodland Hills Friday afternoon, eventually bringing the vehicle to a halt with a PIT maneuver.The vehicle, a dark-colored Toyota Prius, was associated with a catalytic converter theft in Camarillo, said Capt. Worthy of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.When deputies tried to pull the Prius over, the driver sped away. LAUSD, labor partners agree on work-year calendars through 2025

USPS to host passport fair to help ease international travel demands

The United States Postal Service will be hosting a passport fair on Sunday to help more Americans get passports just in time for the upcoming summer travel season.  The fair will take place at Barrington Post Office located at 200 S. Barrington Avenue in Los Angeles from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appointments are not required.
