At least 30 people were hurt after a University of Maryland charter bus crashed into a light pole in College Park on Wednesday morning, officials say.A total of 56 passengers were on board the charter bus when the crash happened in the southbound lanes of Baltimore Avenue near the off-ramp to University Boulevard just after 10:15 a.m., Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department said.All Southbound lanes on Baltimore Avenue are closed to vehicle traffic, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration. The test was a joint effort by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC), making sure they have ways to alert the country in case of national emergencies. Those who received the test heard their phone blare or felt it vibrate for a few moments starting at around 2:18 p.m. Eastern Time. I-495 northbound reopens after serious crash closes highway in Chelmsford

Traffic was halted for miles on Interstate 495 in Chelmsford Wednesday morning as crews responded to a serious crash that left a victim needing a medical helicopter.Firefighters and ambulance crews could be seen surveying the scene on I-495 northbound, near the Westford Street overpass by Exit 87 where at least one person was loaded onto a helicopter around 10 a.m.According to 7NEWS sources, the crash appeared to involve a vehicle that went off I-495 south, through the median strip, and struck a vehicle head-on in the northbound side. At least three people were hospitalized, including the individual who was airlifted. No details on their condition have been released.
