Improperly disposed of fireworks sparked a fire that destroyed two homes in Parker early Tuesday morning, according to South Metro Fire Rescue.Used fireworks tossed in a recycling bin outside the garage of one of the homes sparked a fire that destroyed that house and a neighboring house, fire officials said. The blaze was reported shortly after midnight at 10716 Kimball St.“They thought that because the firework had gone off and had been used, that it was cool enough to throw in the trash and be safe,” said Eric Hurst, spokesman for South Metro Fire Rescue. “Unfortunately every year we respond to fires like this, where people make that mistake…That smoldering heat ends up reigniting and rekindling, and it catches everything in the bin and the plastic bin itself on fire. And at that point, the heat can just run away and start a major fire like we saw this morning.”One family was asleep in their home when the blaze started.
